U.S. Mobilizes Rapid Response Teams to Aid Venezuela After Historic Earthquakes
The United States has launched a large-scale humanitarian response after Venezuela was struck by two historic and deadly earthquakes, causing widespread destruction and leaving thousands in urgent need of assistance.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that elite U.S. search-and-rescue teams from Fairfax County, Virginia, and Los Angeles, California, are already deploying to the affected regions. Additional teams are expected to join as assessments continue.
Rubio emphasized that search and rescue is the most immediate priority, noting that “much of the damage involves collapsed buildings, and digging through that debris requires specialized teams and equipment.”
Beyond rescue operations, the U.S. has activated its State Department disaster response units and broader humanitarian support mechanisms. Rubio highlighted that the U.S. has recent experience coordinating large-scale relief, referencing successful operations in Jamaica following a major storm.
“We’re prepared, and we’re moving quickly,” he said, underscoring America’s commitment to supporting the Venezuelan people during one of the most challenging moments in the nation’s history.
