Plunder was a popular enough game mode on the first Warzone platform, which was released in 2020. It gave players a break from the intensity of a battle royale by granting them a mode in which they could respawn over and over again. There’s one clear goal in Plunder: collect as much money as possible before the game is up. However, since July 2022, Plunder has been on a hiatus, but it has now been confirmed that it’s making a grand return to Warzone today, April 26th.
For a while, it has been assumed that Plunder will make a return to Warzone, given how popular the mode once was. For a few weeks – and even months – dataminers have been finding references to Plunder hidden in the game’s code, which is something that we covered way back in December 2022. Now, amidst ongoing server issues and instability (which may overshadow the deployment), Plunder is coming back to Warzone.

There are many complaints circulating about Warzone 2.0 right now, from server instability to unbalanced weapons. It’s an ongoing discussion that’s fuelled by the notion that the game’s developers simply do not care, opting to release updates such as this one instead of actually ‘fixing the game.’ There are many players that will argue that instead of reintroducing Plunder to the game, Infinity Ward and Co. should be focused on patching up what already exists.
However, given that many players – including pro Warzone streamers like Aydan – have taken long breaks from Warzone, adding something new (or returning something from the past) could be the temporary fix that the community needs. Sure, it’s not going to move mountains, but bringing back Plunder to the ecosystem isn’t a bad thing, is it?
Plunder offers up a simple premise, for those not in the know. Here’s how Plunder works:
Firstly, it’s important to stress that Plunder isn’t just respawn-driven, it’s a mode that gives players their chosen loadout from the moment the game begins. It takes place in the full-sized Warzone battle royale map, and it sees players drop into the same environment, but the goal isn’t to be the last player or team alive. In Plunder, players fight to secure huge sums of cash, with the goal of either reaching a set milestone or being the team with the most money when the timer runs out.
It’s high-octane, exciting, and it offers a pleasant change from the well-established concept of a battle royale.
Plunder returns today, April 26th – will you be playing it?
