One of the best things parents can do for children as they develop is read to them as it helps to enhance their language, social, and academic skills. If you remember your childhood, you likely had a favorite book that brings back some fond memories. And there is a day that honors children’s books, which is International Children’s Book Day, and that takes place on April 2nd. That day was significant because it was Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday.
Therefore, International Children’s Book Day was established in 1967 to promote the significance of reading to children to help with their development. So, based on your zodiac sign, let’s review your favorite children’s book.
Aries – Where The Wild Things Are
Aries, you are passionate and energetic, and perhaps when you were a child, everyone called you a wild thing. You probably were the one that would get into accidents on the playground and end up with a few bruises here and there as a result of that. However, you would get right up and keep playing around. You had a lot of courage and confidence, and the best book was Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak, which was about fun and excitement, and a wild rumpus.
Taurus – Little House On The PrairieTaurus, you are determined and tenacious, which means you would be the one to push through challenges if you had to face them. For example, you would power through a challenging math problem or a large project that presented some obstacles, but you would find a way to complete it yourself before asking anyone to help you. Your favorite childhood book would have been Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie, as you related well to the story. It was about determination and patience to power through life’s challenges and obstacles.
Gemini – Any Roald Dahl BookGemini, you have always been clever and needed intellectual stimulation. But you also had a mischievous side, and you still do. So you needed access to books to keep you busy and avoid trouble. Therefore, any Roald Dahl book, such as Revolting Rhymes or The BFG, would have kept you busy and amused. You would have loved to mimic his ways as you would have found them entertaining. You also would have enjoyed any book that satisfied your curious mind. That meant you likely had a bookshelf with books in your room, with plenty of them by Roald Dahl.
Cancer – Anne Of Green GablesCancer, you are sensitive and always were when you were a child. So, if you wanted to read a book, you did so while you were alone in your room, recharging. And you thoroughly enjoyed story time while your parents read to you. Family meant everything to you back then. Therefore, your ideal childhood book would have been Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery. The story’s protagonist is extremely sensitive and wants others to accept her, as Cancer can relate to that.
Leo – Charlie And The Chocolate FactoryLeo, you are a natural-born leader with a warm heart, but you love to be the center of attention. You also need excitement and laughter in your life. That is why Roald Dahl’s Charlie And The Chocolate Factory is the ideal children’s book for you, and you probably enjoyed reading it too when you were young. You must admit that some of you looked up to Willy Wonka’s factory in disarray. The book’s entertainment would have kept you engaged as it would not have bored you.
Virgo – Mysterious Benedict SocietyVirgo, because of your analytical mind, you needed mental stimulation, such as puzzles to put together and mysteries to solve. Therefore, any book you read would need to keep you engaged, and the best childhood book for you would have been The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. That book is about these brilliant kids attempting to solve these puzzles and mysteries to go a step above the villain in the story, who is hungry for power. You appreciated a book such as that as you could put yourself in their shoes.
Libra – The Sword And The StoneLibra, you may have always been into art and fashion, but you had a strong sense of justice when you were young, and that has not changed at all. Therefore, you want to ensure justice is served when there is a wrong. Thus, the book you would have liked in your childhood was The Sword and Stone by T.H. White. That is where you would have related to many aspects of it as themes regarding diplomacy and justice are explored and spoken about, and Libra has an affinity to that.
Scorpio – Spy SchoolScorpio, you have always been the type to want to solve mysteries, and you kept a lot of things hidden in your youth. You may have even dreamed about being a private investigator, and perhaps you did pursue that dream. You were never into anything superficial, which is why your friends at school had the same mindset as you. The childhood book you would have had an affinity for was Spy School by Stuart Gibbs. A boy worked with the C.I.A., and a book like that would have kept you intrigued.
Sagittarius – Harold And The Purple CrayonSagittarius, you have always been fun and enjoyed cracking a joke in your youth. Creativity was always your strong suit; any story you enjoyed had to be fun and light-hearted. Therefore, your favorite childhood book would have been Harold and the Purple Crayon by Crockett Johnson. The idea of drawing the walls with purple crayons or making a funny joke thrills you, which is why you would have had an affinity to this book. The protagonist is a happy kid that is witty as he goes into a fantasy world and has fun there.
Capricorn – The Secret Of The Old ClockCapricorn, you have been serious and ambitious since you were young. You may loosen up and find value in the fun as you age. However, you were the one that took your schoolwork responsibilities seriously, and grades were significant to you. That was a sign that you had become goal-oriented and ambitious. And your childhood favorite book would have been The Secret of the Old Clock by Carolyn Keene. The book is about the protagonist, Nancy Drew, who is a teenage detective who is highly goal-oriented and will work at solving mysteries no matter what it takes. She takes her work seriously. You relate.
Aquarius – The LoraxAquarius, you have always been a humanitarian, stood up for the underdog, and showed concern over social and environmental issues in your youth. You also like anything unconventional. Therefore, your favorite childhood book would have been The Lorax by Dr. Suess. You related to the Lorax because you are visionary, always have something to defend and stand for, and are a deep thinker. You never had the patience for anyone causing harm to your environment, which was the theme in this book. And besides, Dr. Suess’s books are known to be unconventional, so you will find that attractive.
Pisces – Alice’s Adventures in WonderlandPisces, you are dreamy and have always had an active imagination since you were young. Art has always been something you appreciated and enjoyed. You can always recall that you have had to face so much chaos for one reason or another. Therefore, the childhood book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll would have intrigued you. You would have found the trippy adventure through Wonderland intriguing and relatable. You have always been compassionate, which is how you could relate to Alice.
Reading is good for the mind, body, and soul, so there is so much encouragement for kids to read and for their parents to read to them before they master it. Pull out your favorite childhood book on April 2nd, International Children’s Book Day. If you have kids, ensure that you read to them on that day (which should be a daily occurrence), and let it spark a habit of reading something daily for yourself. It is never too late to read as it is always good for the mind and will help keep you sharp.
