One of the most exciting announcements of Warhammer Fest this weekend was made this afternoon! Warhammer: The Old World was officially announced with two brand new models already ready to go. Fans at the Fest were clearly very excited by the releases. That being said, reactions on social media have been a bit of a mixed bag, which isn’t really surprising. Let’s dive into everything we learned about Warhammer: The Old World today!

Jumping straight into the deep end, two models for Warhammer: Old World have already been revealed. This new tabletop game from Games Workshop promises to be a lore heavy game that could even rival Age of Sigmar. Perfect for fans of narrative play! Old-school Warhammer fans who still mourn the loss of the Old World setting as it gave way to Sigmar’s Mortal Realms should be pretty pleased to see that the game is getting some much needed TLC.
At Warhammer Fest 2023, two brand new models were revealed: the Tomb King and the Bretonnian Paladin. These chivalrous knights will be going head to head with the undead rulers of Nehekhara in an unending battle.
Tomb Kings in Warhammer Fantasy Old WorldThe return of the Tomb Kings has proved one of the most popular announcements from Warhammer Fest, potentially even outdoing the new 40k models revealed on day 1. Not only will the old Kings be returning to the game but GW have confirmed that new models are well on their way too. The current road map shows that all new models will be available in 2023!

They might not have hyped the crowd as much as the Tomb Kings but the Bretonnian Paladins will come with their own new models, as well as some homages to days of models past. The new models do lend themselves well to fans of details. The Paladin minis, as well as the Kings, will be available in both resin and plastic too!

It’s worth noting that during the Q&A session after the official preview, Games Workshop did confirm that Warhammer: The Old World won’t receive a starter set, much in the same way that Horus Heresy didn’t. That doesn’t mean new players should instantly disregard Warhammer: The Old World as a way to start the game though. Rather, the new game simply won’t come with books, boards and all the other content designed for brand new players.
Don’t worry, this isn’t all we’re expecting from Warhammer: The Old World. The announcement of the Tomb Kings and Bretonnian Paladins as the first sets for the game have generated a lot of anticipation and conversation online. With the inclusion of these iconic factions, players can look forward to experiencing the rich lore and history of the Old World in a new way. It remains to be seen what other factions will be added to the game. However, it’s safe to say that this announcement has set the stage for more good things to come!
