Trading card games like the Digimon TCG are no strangers to emergency ban lists and the June 1st ban list is no different. With Digimon, they usually come as a result of consistently dominant Digimon TCG tournament results. The 2023 Monocolor Ultimate Cup format has been theorized as the testing ground for Bandai to float potential bans.
Previous Digimon TCG tournament meta staples Promo WereGarurumon, BT9 DeathXmon were amongst the first to be hit for the format. They were joined by EX2 Impmon, alongside EX3 Hydramon from the first month of Ultimate Cup results in the west.
On Friday, May 26th, shortly after 12PM, Twitter user “de_gi_no_gen_2” posted an image showing a 4 card list of the June 1st ban list for the standard Asian format. Less than 30 minutes later, the official English Twitter confirmed the bans. These would be matched in the English release of Digimon TCG Tournaments to keep parity between regions. A practice that started around BT9 after Blue and Yellow Hybrid continued to dominate the west despite the falloff in Asia.

This 4 card ban list follows the widely disappointing April 1st single card ban of BT11-064 Greymon (X Antibody). Further reasoning behind the selections can be found on the official Digimon TCG website ban list page.
Despite feedback to Bandai for more time to be given to the public on tournament rules and bans, this ban, unfortunately, drops 1 day before the UK sees its first BT12 Regional Event at UK Games Expo 2023. The region, which was most affected by the BT12 distribution issues, will have just a single day to readjust decklists. This includes 2 of the most popular decks being hit.
Organized Play Events announced via Discord that the ban list would indeed be in effect for the regional. This means the decks to look out for have changed overnight.
Keep an eye out for our upcoming breakdown of Top 16 Deck representation for the Friday Regional and Sunday Ultimate Cups after the dust settles on the heavily stacked weekend of Digimon TCG Tournaments. In the meantime, remember to check out the best Digimon TCG starter decks to get started!
