British esports organisation Tundra Esports and PSG Esports, the esports division of French football goliath Paris Saint-Germain, have announced a major partnership that will see the creation of a new Rocket League team.
Named PSG Tundra, the new team aims to ‘break into the global elite’ by creating a Rocket League division that is capable of winning competitions, according to the press release.
To do this, both companies stated that the Rocket League team will look to leverage PSG’s brand and Tundra’s esports expertise in order to build a ‘highlight engaged’ global audience.
The new team becomes PSG Esports’ latest team venture with another esports organisation. Alongside its collaboration with Tundra for Rocket League, PSG partners with LGD in Dota 2 (PSG.LGD), works with Fortnite organisation Team New Age (PSG.TNA) and notably holds a League of Legends roster with Talon Esports (PSG Talon). The latter deal with PSG Talon was recently renewed for a further three years earlier this month.
This is not the first time the French football club has entered the Rocket League scene. PSG Esports previously held a competitive roster from 2017 to 2019.
Whilst Tundra is primarily known for its Dota 2 roster, with the organisation winning the game’s world championship (The International) in 2022, it also has experience within the Rocket League scene.
Tundra Esports has competed in Rocket League since 2022 after acquiring the Top Blokes roster, though the organisation has yet to reach an RLCS Split Major. Outside of Dota 2, Tundra also has notable rosters in Fortnite and FIFA.
Paris Saint-Germain Chief Brand Officer, Fabien Allègre, commented on the announcement: “We are delighted to be back in Rocket League, one of the most popular games in the world.
“We are anxious to see the PSG Tundra team succeed. In putting together our team Paris Saint-Germain is looking to make the most of its presence in Europe and to continue its expansion. Thanks to the PSG Tundra team, the club now has seven Esports teams.”
Further information, such as who will be on PSG Tundra’s roster, has not been announced.
