For a while, rumours have been circulating regarding an all-new Warzone 2.0 map set in Amsterdam. There were leaks that occurred around the start of May 2023 that saw some images shared of this new map – which is supposedly named ‘Vondel’ – that Activision was issuing DMCA strikes against. Now, according to further reports, it seems that this new Warzone 2.0 map – which will offer a much more urban experience – is set to be released (or at least revealed) when Season 04 goes live on June 14th.
It has been claimed that Vondel is a ‘mid-sized’ map, sitting somewhere between Al Mazrah and Ashika Island on the scale. It has also been suggested that, at first, Vondel won’t be a battle royale map, but instead, it’ll service DMZ and Resurgence game modes. There are claims that it’ll be opened up to traditional battle royale playlists further down the line, and when it does, it’ll be the first time in franchise history that Warzone features two battle royale maps running in parallel.

Al Mazrah has plenty of spots that could be considered ‘urban’ – particularly in the city. But, there’s just too much open space for it to feel dense, and most players tend to avoid the city wherever possible. If Vondel certainly does launch with Season 04, it could be the densest urban map we’ve seen yet in Warzone 2.0 – and perhaps in the history of Warzone. It’ll likely be made up of narrow streets lined with canals, close-knit buildings, and short sight lines.
It’ll be a massive change from the sweeping, open environments of Al Mazrah – or even Verdansk, the game’s original map that was released in March 2020.
At present, almost nothing is known about Vondel, aside from what CharlieIntel was discussing on Twitter. It has been claimed that this map has been built by Beenox, the team responsible for the creation of the remarkably popular map, Rebirth Island.
There are high expectations for a new Warzone 2.0 map, as the last map that launched – Ashika Island – brought many players back into the fold. While Caldera essentially killed Call of Duty for a period of time, Al Mazrah didn’t necessarily do much to restore the game’s former glory. By today, the Warzone player count is dropping at a rapid rate, and the platform is being plagued by cheaters, instability, and performance issues.
It’ll take a lot to patch things up, and Vondel may just be the start of the reparative efforts.
We’ll know more soon – Season 04 will be released on June 14th, and that’s when the new Warzone 2.0 map is rumoured to be launched.
