The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has released final rules for online gaming after extensive consultation with industry representatives, educationists, and experts. The rules define online games accessible through intermediaries and prohibit wagering and betting on any games. The regulations include appointing multiple self-regulatory organizations responsible for declaring online games permissible and mandatory KYC verification of real-money game players. The IT Ministry will also notify agencies to fact-check false and misleading information related to government business.
