American football is a sport comprising thrill at the cost of heavy hits and hazards. Given the game’s viciousness, there are higher chances of an athlete facing an injury. But few have spoken about it openly. Miami Dolphins‘ Byron Jones recently stirred things up after a couple of tweets hinting toward retirement and criticizing the NFL. It led to several fans and athletes speaking out over Jones’ comments.
Byron Jones missed out on the 2022-23 season after landing on the PUP list. He sustained an Achilles tendon injury that required surgery. Situations did not pan out for the CB, and he could not compete in any game. After the Tua Tagovailoa concussion situation, the scare is at an all-time high.
Did a Dolphins CB send out retirement feelers? The Miami Dolphins CB responded to an 8-year-old tweet of him clinching a 12ft broad jump. He said things have changed since then, and he cannot jump or run. He also slammed the NFL for their medical policies. Byron Jones added, “It was an honor and privilege to play in the NFL but it came at a regrettable cost I did not foresee. In my opinion, no amount of professional success or financial gain is worth avoidable chronic pain and disabilities. Godspeed to the draft class of 2023.”

CB Jones’ tweets are eye-opening. But is he actually retiring?
New update on Byron Jones’ career status amidst strong tweetsThe tweets by Byron Jones might indicate that the cornerback could step down. Several people might think that way since the athlete is dealing with issues. But new reports would suggest that it is not the case.
In wake of today's tweets… Byron Jones is not retiring and there's no pending lawsuit, per source. With his 14.4 M salary non guaranteed, the general expectation is he will be cut by Dolphins with post June 1 designation. But nothing has been settled on that front.
— Barry Jackson (@flasportsbuzz) February 25, 2023
As per Miami Herald’ Barry Jackson, Byron Jones would not retire, and there is no remaining lawsuit either. However, with the $14.4 Million non-guaranteed cash, he could be on the verge of getting cut. But they have not figured out how it would materialize.
It is yet to see how the situation pans out.
