When the temperature outside the window drops, many people change the duvet in their bedroom. Before buying this type of accessory, it is worth considering whether it should be a winter, thick, warm anti-allergic quilt or a year-round, breathable, lightweight feather quilt. Its size and material are also of great importance.
Both all-season duvets and those adapted to particular seasons have their supporters. But which ones are the better choice? What else is worth knowing before buying a winter duvet? Be sure to check it out!
The filling of a winter quilt is one of the elements determining its weight, functionality, softness or the amount of heat supplied. This is also an important issue, especially for allergy sufferers. Due to the filling, these products can be divided into:
Down Quilts: A warm down quilt is filled with a delicate bird feather that grows before the actual feather. Goose down perfectly wicks away moisture and provides a comfortable temperature.
Feather quilts - feathers have slightly different structures and heating parameters than down. Such a quilt is filled with small feathers, which makes it less springy and heavier than a down quilt. It also has slightly worse thermal insulation properties but is still one of the highest quality products.
Woollen duvets - a woollen duvet provides excellent ventilation. Wool gives off excess moisture, keeps you warm and has many health-promoting properties.
Duvets with artificial filling - polyester or silicone fibre are used for their production. Such duvets tog are light and anti-allergic but do not breathe as well as duvets with natural filling.
However, these are only some of the possible variants. Quilts are also filled with silk or coconut fibre. Another option will also be filling with bamboo fibres. Bamboo fibre is an artificial cellulose fibre that uses bamboo as a raw material that provides cellulose.
The cover also impacts the overall rating and parameters of the selected winter quilt. The most popular covers are cotton, satin and microfiber. Cotton ensures excellent air circulation, satin is antistatic, and microfiber is highly durable and soft.
Quilt for the winter - when to change the quilt and on what basis to choose it?
Due to this purpose, we can distinguish winter, summer and all-season quilts.
All-season quilts are slightly thicker than summer models but thinner than winter ones. Such quilts can also consist of two parts. Only one layer is used in summer; in winter, they are easily fastened with press studs. Thanks to this, we get a warm winter quilt.
Warm winter quilt - winter quilts have a more incredible amount of filling. Of course, a down or feather quilt will work best here.
Summer duvet - the summer duvet is made of less filling than the winter and all-season duvet, thanks to which it has a lower grammage and is lighter.
The duvet is often replaced when the temperature in the apartment drops below 20 degrees, but it is often related to individual preferences and sensitivity to cold. Changing the duvet to a winter 15 duvet tog is also associated with savings on bills because, thanks to this, we can turn the heating down a bit for the night.
Customers also often wonder whether opting for a winter quilt or a multi-seasonal one is better. A lot depends on the conditions at home and what our habits are. In the case of thermophilic people, a winter duvet will be better on colder days. This solution is also good in older and less well-insulated buildings. If, on the other hand, there are no temperature fluctuations at night, multi-seasonal duvets will suffice. However, the ideal option is those models that consist of two parts. We can easily fasten them together on colder days and on warmer days, use only a summer layer.
A special scale determines the warmth class of a duvet. Thanks to it, we can check which duvet will be the best for winter.
On colder days, models made of down or feathers will be perfect. The King of Cotton company offers the highest quality duvets with Canadian, Siberian and Hungarian goose feather filling, as well as luxurious duvets with natural goose down and warm, reliable duvets made of microfiber and 100% cotton.
When choosing a down quilt, could you pay attention to its elasticity? The thermal properties of quilts often depend on the quality of the material, so light and thin quilts retain heat better than thick quilts for the winter but are made of dubious quality material.
Down and goose feather quilts, i.e. year-round products, are also perfect for winter!
The best winter and year-round quilt is the one that has been filled with good quality material. One of the better choices is also all-season duvets filled with goose down or feathers, which are very popular. Such a duvet will have great thermal insulation properties and provide the right temperature during winter nights. However, it will work well not only in winter but also during any season because it does not allow overheating and allows air to circulate.
The high-quality down quilt is light, soft to the touch and comfortable, thanks to which it will meet the expectations of even the most demanding people. However, let's choose only products made of highly selected feathers and down with impeccable filling.
Down D01 is the highest quality down, which is obtained from the most delicate places of birds, i.e. the most sensitive and in need of the best protection against the cold. Excellent quality is classified as D04, D15 and D11. Sound quality is D23 and D67.
D37 and D47 are feathers characterized by appropriate softness and elasticity.
We already know how to choose quilts for the winter, but how to care for them? Hygiene and washing are essential, as they eliminate unnecessary bacteria and mites. Models made of natural fillings, including down or feathers, are best cleaned in a professional laundry. Thanks to this, we will avoid losing the product's properties or its damage. Remember to ventilate regularly. However, let's avoid exposing the quilts to unfavourable weather conditions.
In the offers of many stores, you will find warm winter quilts and summer and all-season quilts with various types of filling. So what kind of duvet to choose for winter? There is no unequivocal answer to the question. It all depends on our individual preferences and expectations.
However, Let us remember that a warm quilt is made of the highest quality materials. Light and springy duvets with down filling will often be a much better choice for winter and cold nights than a heavy and thick duvet with dubious filling.
A winter and all-season quilt made of down or feathers guarantees good air circulation and allows the skin to breathe at night. It is characterized by much greater durability, which ensures a comfortable sleep and allows you to rest fully!
