Introduction
We're here to help you through the process of becoming a successful owner-operator with our company.
You're a Booker Owner Operator, which means you own your own truck and are responsible for all costs associated with operating it. You get to decide who drives for you and when, as well as how much they'll be paid based on the miles driven and hours worked.
As an owner operator, your responsibilities include:
The first step to becoming an owner-operator is to get a truck. You can purchase one new or used, but it's best to make sure that you have the right insurance coverage in place before you start driving. Next, get your CDL (Commercial Driver's License) and then start looking for ways to make money by driving for someone else until you're ready to go out on your own.
References and background checks are important. Your references should be people you know and trust, who can attest to your character and work ethic. Background checks are done to ensure that you are a good fit for the company, so it's best to keep an open mind when answering questions during this process. The information gathered during these checks could potentially affect your ability to obtain an Owner Operator Contract with Booker Transportation Services LLC (BTS), so it's important that all applicants provide accurate information at all times!
Booker offers driver training classes. You can choose to take the training online or in person.
The online class is self-paced and available 24/7, so you can complete it at your own pace, on your own time.
The in person class is a 4 day course that takes place at our facility in Dallas, TX.
You need to have truck insurance. It's the law, but it's also a good idea for your own safety and peace of mind. The type of truck insurance you choose will depend on what kind of vehicle you drive, how much money you want to spend on premiums, and other factors including where in the country (or world) your business operates.
In general though there are two main types. Liability Coverage - This covers damage done by accidents involving other vehicles or property. Collision Coverage - This covers damage done by accidents involving your own vehicle. Comprehensive Coverage - This includes all other perils not specifically covered by either collision or liability coverage. Uninsured Motorist Protection (UMPP) - This protects against accidents caused by uninsured drivers such as those involved in hit-and-run incidents who have no way of paying for injuries sustained during an accident caused by them. Underinsured Motorist Protection (UIMP) - Similar to UMPA but extends compensation beyond medical bills for injuries sustained during an accident caused by another party which may include lost wages if unable work due injuries sustained during said accident.
